Students hunt for art on campus

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at Kirkwood Community College has created an Art Hunt showcasing certain pieces of art on campus.

Each year the group completes two projects, one having an emphasis on service to the college and the other on service to the community.

According to Tony Arduini, PTK advisor and associate professor of speech, “PTK officers meet with the Kirkwood president each year to discuss what they can do for the college.”

Brochures outlining the pieces of art in the scavenger hunt can be found in the library, as well as on the PTK bulletin board located in Cedar Hall. The brochure details each piece, the donor of the piece and where it is located.

“There’s a lot of art on campus and people don’t really know about it. So, it’s also a way to appreciate the beauty of the campus,” said Arduini.

The first 100 participants in the hunt were entered in a prize drawing on Sept. 6. However, Arduini said he wants students to continue participating in the hunt long after the drawing.

He said benefits would be that students “learn more about campus and get to learn a variety of expression.”

In addition to the featured pieces for the Art Hunt, there are also many examples of student art and photography on display throughout campus. Arduini added, “We have a beautiful campus and this is one way for people to get out and see it.”
