Campus Health provides coats to students

Kirkwood Community College Campus Health is sponsoring a coat drive for students who need a coat but may not have the means to procure their own cold weather wear.

Campus Health is only collecting adult sized coats this year but Campus Health Nurse Kim Pritts said, “If all goes well, we anticipate expanding our collection to hats, gloves and scarves next year.”

The coat drive is the result of a college community working together. Pritts added that it’s a group effort on behalf of Kirkwood Community College.

The coats available are donated by KCC employees and then picked up and laundered by Kirkwood volleyball team members, according to Pritts.

She added that Rick Braden, the owner of Nature’s Way Cleaners, also plays a part in the process by providing a free dry cleaning service of the donated coats.

Pritts also stated, “Student Services has generously provided us a space to store the coats to disperse to students.”

The coat drive has begun and will continue through the month of October. Students who need a coat may stop by Campus Health in Iowa Hall, room 132, to request a coat.

Pritts stated there is no paperwork to fill out but students will need to bring their EagleCard when requesting a coat.

Campus Health provides many free services to students on campus, including a small food pantry and other personal items. They also offer immunizations, information about how to quit smoking, and STD testing. Additionally, flu shots will be available Oct. 18, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. for $15.

Campus Health is open Monday- Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. and the nurse is available Monday- Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
