Halloween is near, time to fear

Scream Acres

Location: 3260 69th Street, Atkins

Time: Every Friday and Saturday in October from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Cost: two attractions for $20, four attractions for $30

Features: Four attractions including Cell Block Z, a zombie prison; The Cornfield, a haunted corn maze;  Carnival Chaos, a fair filled with your worst nightmares and The Slaughterhouse, a haunted slaughterhouse.  


Haunted House presented by U of I College Activities Board

Location: Main Lounge at the Iowa Memorial Union, Iowa City

Time: Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Cost: Free

Features: It will include themed rooms with actors and actresses playing goblins, ghouls, pirates, witches, zombies and many other sinister savages. 


Circle of Ash 

Location: Linn County Fairgrounds, 201 Central City Road, Central City

Time: Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during October and Monday, Oct. 31, beginning at 8 p.m.

Cost: $20

Features: Three main attractions for one price including Frightmare Forest, an outdoor haunted attraction; Pandemonium, the newest concept with multiple wrong turns to keep you going in circles and Crow Creek, a common area featuring bon fires and concessions.


Heart of Darkness

Location: 5111 Osage Road, Waterloo

Time: Every Friday and Saturday in October from 7 p.m. – midnight; the last three Thursdays of October from 7 – 10 p.m.; the last three Sundays of October from 5 – 8 p.m; Oct. 31 beginning at 7 p.m.

Cost: Thursday, $15; Friday and Saturday, $18; Sunday, $13 

Features: Blackout on Thursdays allow groups of six to go through in total darkness with just one flashlight; more than 30 actors and zombie paintball on Fridays and Saturdays and family friendly nights on Sundays.


Harris Haven Funeral Home Haunted House

Location: 3767 Lafayette Road, Evansdale

Time: Oct. 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31. Friday and Saturday 7 p.m. - ?, Sundays and weeknights 7 - 10 p.m.

Features: $1 from every ticket purchased on Oct. 15 will go to the Cedar Bend Humane Society
