New movie ‘Don’t Breathe’ disturbing and thrilling

Don’t Breathe, a new crime thriller starring Jane Levy and Stephen Lang and directed by Fede Alvarez, is a movie about a group of house thieves who attempt to rob a blind Gulf War veteran of a six figure settlement that he got after his daughter was killed in a car accident.

They soon learn they’re in over their heads when they are trapped in a dark house with the impaired lunatic, his remaining senses tuned to kill.

The filming techniques, such as the camera shots and angles, brought a lot more life to this film. There was one scene where something was thrown and the camera followed the object and ended up as a focused worm’s-eye-view shot of it laying on the ground. There was also a very strong emphasis on little noises; breathing, floor creaks, and various other sounds were pronounced along with the scant light, making our senses seem almost as advanced as the man’s.

Some problems include the dialogue being flat and unrealistic and the victims in the movie lack a lot of common sense.

The dialogue, especially with the character “Money,” seemed lazy, as if the writers didn’t put as much thought into his story, making him a jerk for no reason at all. Also, parts of this movie were disturbing so be ready for some scenes you wouldn’t want to watch with grandma.

If you’re looking for a good, suspenseful thriller to go to with your friends, this is your movie. However, if disturbing and alarming content isn’t your thing, this might not be the film for you.
