"Doctor Strange" is an interesting movie to say the least. It has everything you would expect from one of the Marvel movies: Heroes, fight scenes, special effects, and memorable performances. The movie is held down a bit from being a bit repetitive with humor being consistent throughout, especially during the final act. There are also some predictable sub plots.

The movie follows the character of Dr. Steven Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Strange is a world renowned medical doctor whose life is changed when he is injured in a car crash, proving once again you should not be on your phone while driving. The crash leaves him without the use of his hands and he falls into a deep depression with the thought of not being able to continue his medical career.

After getting a tip that there was a paraplegic person who was miraculously able to walk again, Strange sets out to find the same cure. His journey leads him to a mysterious place called Kamar-Taj, where he seeks help from someone called “The Ancient One.” The Ancient One agrees to help train the doctor after some reluctance. This training seems to incorporate Sci-fi with Kung-Fu, but Marvel seems to pull it off.

As a result of this training, Strange finds himself having to combat Kaecilius and his henchmen, which is when all of the really cool special effects come in. Most of the action happens during the second act, with the ending being the most climactic. The film plays out a little slow but it is one worth seeing. Cumberbatch’s performance alone is spectacular. Overall, the movie is well written and executed with some great performances, leaving the viewer wanting more. Hopefully we will be seeing Doctor Strange in more Marvel movies.
