Student-run club promotes acceptance among all students

Unity at Kirkwood Community College is a student-run club for those who identify as sexually different as well as those who are supportive.

According to Elliot Blake, the club’s advisor, the group accepts new members at any point in the semester. “It’s completely open to anybody. It’s not just for gay, bi or transgender students but also anyone who identifies as sexually different and supportive people.”

Blake said anyone interested is encouraged to sit in on a meeting. He added that Unity Club members are also active on campus and host drag shows, bake sales and a talent show.

The group is looking to become more progressive. “They want to be a little more politically involved,” said Blake. He added the club is looking for new members to support the cause of unity of all people.

Meetings are every Tuesday during activity hour, 11:15 a.m. – 12:10 p.m. in 3062 Cedar Hall.  Log on to for information about other student-run clubs.
