Technology ideas for summer fun

With summer right around the corner, you may be making many new purchases: new shoes, new clothes, sunscreen. But what you may not be considering is the tech you may need on that vacation or trip to the beach.

This tech will make sure you get the most out of your summer by allowing you to recharge your phone on the go, listen to music on the beach, or even heighten your photography game.

Power Packs - These portable batteries are small enough to fit into a pocket or purse, yet powerful enough to charge your phone completely at least once, depending on the milliamp hour (mAH) count.

Most phones have a battery capacity of 2000 to 3000 mAH, so make sure to get a battery pack of at least that capacity if you want it to charge your phone completely. Battery packs come in all shapes and sizes, and the company BUQU has some of the coolest designs. Not only that, but they are all at least 2000 mAH, so you’ll have plenty of juice!

Lenses - With all that extra battery life, you won’t have to miss a moment of your vacation.  Kikkerland makes a simple to use set of lenses that clip on almost any phone.  It includes wide angle for landscapes, macro for detail shots, and fisheye when you want to get creative.  And the price is just $10 making your Snapchat a thing of beauty for the right price.

Action Cameras - Phone cameras can only do so much. What happens when you want something with a little more endurance and durability? That’s where action cameras come in. They shoot great video at least 1080p, are usually waterproof, and many can shoot slow-motion video.

The most well-known brand is GoPro, but their recent cameras can be over $400! Luckily, there are much cheaper alternatives. Activeon’s action cameras shoot in 1080p, have built in WiFi, and have a 2-inch screen on the back so you can see the video immediately without relying on an app.

They also have support for most GoPro accessories. The best part? They’re only $49! They don’t have slow motion capabilities and they do need waterproof housing in order to go underwater, but for fifty bucks, I’d say those concessions are well worth it!

Fitness - With the weather finally warming up, now is the perfect time to start working out like you always said you would.

Fitness trackers are the perfect way to stay motivated and track your workouts. FitBit has become the defacto fitness tracker brand in the past few years, and the wide range of trackers they offer has something for everyone.

The best all-around tracker is the FitBit Alta. It’s small enough to not be too gaudy, yet still sports a decently-sized display to show you your step-count, workout details such as distance and elevation, and more. It can even track your sleep if you wear it to bed, and it’s water resistant.

Audio - Of course, working out can be pretty boring unless you have a set of earbuds in! The market is so saturated with hundreds of brands of headphones and earbuds that it can be hard to find the right pair. SkullCandy has a range of good, affordable options that will be good enough for everyday use without causing panic if they happen to break. But earbuds aren’t the only audio gear you’ll need.

Chances are you’ll want to share your music while you’re at the beach or grilling out, and that’s where a good bluetooth speaker comes in.

A wireless speaker needs to be loud enough to be heard over the crowd and durable enough for any situation. JBL’s Charge 3 fits that bill. It’s water and dust proof, gets super loud, and comes in a variety of colors — perfect for any vacation. It can even charge your other devices! It is large though, so JBL also has its “Flip” speakers which are smaller and cheaper.

Make the most of your summer, it is always too short.  Stop in to EagleTech for any of these products and more, we are here to help, answer questions, and ensure that your time during and after Kirkwood is tech-top-notch.
