Kirkwood Community College has different programs that match student interests and increase motivation. LEARN & EARN is a program that provides free certification training with Kirkwood’s Pathways for Academic Career Education and Employment (KPACE).

This program, which goes along with the Gap Tuition Assistance Program, offers tuition assistance for approved Continuing Education certificate training programs in various fields including Business/Information Technology, Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing/Industrial Technology and Transportation. Those trainings will be short-term, from one to 24 weeks,  and begin Jan. 8, 2018.

LEARN & EARN also provides an opportunity to earn a high school diploma for those who were not able to complete high school graduation previously and an opportunity to earn a culinary certificate.

According to Randy Knudson, the KPACE navigator, “People who have specific interests in building a career in the fields proposed are welcome.’’

Knudson also mentioned that this training will increase the “job seeking skills’’ of the participants. The objectives of the Gap Tuition Assistance Program are to train people and to make them ready for the work environment.

Through the tuition assistance, participants can enter the workforce to an in-demand occupation. Payment assistance can be full or partial with direct training costs, including tuition, books and required fees and equipment. The program will also provide resources for individuals in the community looking to validate their skills and area employers looking to measure workplace skills.

Classes may be taken at the Cedar Rapids main campus, Kirkwood Center for Lifelong Learning, Iowa City campus, Jones County Regional Education Center, Benton County Center, Iowa County Center, Cedar County Center and Mondays and Wednesdays at the Washington County Center or Iowa WORKS at the Lindale Mall.
