Although the event won’t happen until April, plans are already underway for the Business and IT Career Fair at Kirkwood Community College.

To help students prepare for the career fair, Career Development Specialist Gary Vogt said the college will offer workshops on Feb. 20 and March 27.

The Resume Building Workshop will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Cedar Hall, room 343, from 11:15 a.m. - 12:10 p.m. Career Services Coordinator Danielle Ebaugh said, “First impressions count and the first impression that a potential employer will have of you is going to depend on how you present your resume.”

Vogt said the main priority for the workshop March 27 will be to help students build interviewing skills and allow them to get a professional photo taken. He added that these two workshops are designed for Kirkwood students to make better connections.

According to Nicholas Snyder, business major, “Connections are really important because they establish great marketability and opportunities.”

Vogt said, “The Business and IT Career Fair is looking to provide students a ‘jump start’ on their career search. Finding a career is a full-time job and students who begin to establish a job search network early are more likely to have success in finding future employment.”

Prior to the career fair, students are encouraged to do research about companies attending. Vogt added, “Research the companies involved in the career fair and come prepared with your resume and ‘elevator speech’ and you will have a very productive experience on April 17.”

The Business and IT Career Fair will be on the third floor of Iowa Hall and while it is focused on Business and IT careers Vogt said all students are welcome to attend.
