Spring forward and recharge

Even though Mother Nature threw a curve ball over the past weekend, the winter season officially yielded to Spring as of March 20.

With more sunlight every day and the changes to come in the next few weeks and months that will awaken what has been in a slumber, it’s time to embrace all that the new season has to offer.

Change is everywhere people look in any season, yet it’s in the spring that the biggest changes happen. Flowers bloom, the grass turns green and animals wake up and return, once again revealing to us what harsh, long and variable Iowa winters hide.

This is the time that everything seems to come alive again after several months of absence.

One of the biggest adaptations for college students nationwide is graduation and the preparation that accompanies such a proud life achievement.

During this time, students say goodbye to friends and instructors as they take their first steps into the world, many of which will have a vastly different experience than while in college.

Major events such as graduation can be a frightening time for many however taking a lunge forward with one’s head held high can assist with progressing through a variety of important life events.

Finals are also looming again on the horizon, which adds to pressures that students encounter so it is important to remember that there are many ways to enjoy what Spring has to offer each person.

Stress can be high this time of year, so make sure to take time to drink in the joys of these months bring, even if it is just for a breath of fresh air.

A study by the University of Michigan and Edge Hill University stated, “After 13 weeks, those who walked at least once a week experienced positive emotions and less stress.”

As the saying goes, remember to stop and smell the flowers. Take the time to grasp onto some of the buddings and liveliness that Nature presents.

Put a little spring in your step, grow with nature and move into this time of rebirth with a positive attitude.
