The Kirkwood Community College softball team currently sits at 27-3 (with a current four-game winning streak) and are ranked 3rd in the NJCAA rankings.

As a team the Eagles have been an offensive juggernaut. They are hitting .399, slugging .646 and have an on-base percentage of .483. They have also been excelling at keeping runs off the board. The Eagles hold a team ERA of 2.56 with 9 shutouts and holding opponents to a .237 average.

The Eagles are led by Sophomore DonnieRae Mayhew. Mayhew is hitting .456 with 12 home runs and 33 Runs Batted In (RBI). Mayhew has also shined on the mound, with a 13-0 record and a 1.56 ERA.  Mayhew is not alone in the offensive onslaught. Freshman Lauren Kuch is hitting .544 with 5 home runs and 35 RBI’s. Sophomores Audra Brindenstine and Sonya McCormick have been speed demons on the bases with 8 stolen bases this season to lead the squad

A landmark moment for the Eagles occurred on March 18th when Freshman Natalie Halvorson threw a no hitter against Central Methodist University. During that game Halvorson struck out 10 and only walked two during the dominating effort.

Another milestone occurred five days later when Head Softball Coach Joe Yegge won his 500th career game. Of those 500 games 419 have come as head coach of the Eagles. Over his 11-year tenure as head coach, Yegge has averaged 26 wins per season.

The Eagles have fought through weather issues early this season. As of press time, there have been six games that have been canceled or postponed.

The Kirkwood Community College baseball team is living up to its lofty preseason expectations.

Currently the Eagles sit at 23-4 and are ranked 4th in the NJCAA national rankings. They are hitting .340 with a .441 on base percentage and slugging at a .530 clip.

The offense is spurned on by Freshman Izaya Fullard. Fullard is hitting .443 and leads the team with 43 hits. Sophomores Korry Howell, Cal Clark and Chili Mosely have also been contributors with multi-faceted offensive contributions.

Coupled with their stellar offense the Eagles have prevented runs. They have a team ERA of 3.25 and have thrown out runners by only allowing a paltry 3 percent of steal attempts.

Much like the softball team, the baseball team has been plagued with the weather. They have had seven games either cancelled or postponed.
