Students gathered in Iowa Hall on Sept. 25 to participate in  many different activities for Health and Wellness Day.
The event was hosted by Active Minds and was meant to give students insight into the importance of not only physical health but also mental health.
During the fair, students could visit several stands each set up to help them explore the many services offered by the college. Helping with the event were local groups such as the Cedar Rapids Police Department and staff from Mercy Hospital.  Students who attended were given the chance to take a free mental health screening and had the opportunity to engage in activities that could help with stress relief.
Two of the most popular activities were th color station and virtual reality meditation. The color station gave students the chance to not only color but also use play dough to allow their minds to build what they wanted to.
The virtual reality meditation was made possible by EagleTech. Liberal Arts student Staci Shult said it was “an experience from another world.”
In addition to the stress relief stations, the Cedar Rapids Police Department had a drunk goggles lab where they would test students to walk a line with different levels of alcohol impairment. There were three levels ranging from just above legal intoxication to heavily impaired. For students who visited all stands a prize drawing was set up to reward them for participating.
Throughout the day more than 140 students received a mental health screening. When asked about the event and what they learned students said they learned a lot about depression and bipolar disorder and about the different mental health issues.
