Kirkwood Community College has long been known for its excellence in both academics and sports,  with the 2018-2019 school year being no exception.

As of Feb. 12, four teams are ranked in the NJCAA Division II Top 10: men’s basketball (4th), baseball (9th), women’s basketball (7th) and softball (7th).

Both men and women’s basketball runs from October to March. The men currently boast a 4th place ranking with an overall record of 20-3 and 8-1 in conference standings.

With an overall record of 20-6 and 10-1 in conference play, the women are ranked #7 and  undefeated at home this season.

The month of February rounds out for men and women’s basketball with home games on Feb. 16 against Iowa Lakes Community College and Feb. 27 against Southwestern Community College. The women play at 5:30 p.m. and the men tip off at 7:30 p.m. All home games are played in Johnson Hall.

The men’s baseball and women’s softball schedules ramp up in the spring and continue into fall however that did not stop both KCC teams from making their marks on the NJCAA rankings last season and setting big expectations for the upcoming season.

Head softball coach Eric Frese said he is proud of his student athletes, who will open their season ranked #7. “The players are focused and are working on taking care of the things they can control. We are really excited to get the season started,” said Frese.

The men on the baseball diamond will  begin their competitive season with a #9 seed. The first home game for both men and women is a double header on March 20 against Indian Hills Community College. Game times are 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the KCC fields.

All home sporting events are free to students with their EagleCard. For more information and complete schedule for all KCC sports, please visit www.kirkwood.edu/athletics.
