Aspiring entertainer shares reflections and impact of music on life

Gucci Mane, xxxTentacion, Akon, Tupac, NWA, Metro Boomin and my good friends Logan, Alex and Ethan. What do all those names have in common? They all inspire me to work harder, push further, be louder, and live better than I thought I could.

Making music helps me with my emotions in my day to day struggles, whether to cheer me up on a gloomy day, or to simply be relatable so I feel less alone.

I first decided to try rapping when I overheard Ethan spitting bars at lunch time way back in ninth grade. My boss, Mir-agj Khabbir, then convinced me I had talent. He said I should just start writing down my freestyles and it would take me far.

I asked my good friend Logan to tell me how he sees the culture surrounding hip hop music. “It can free my mind and take my worries away for a bit,” he replied.

I think that statement depicts the culture excellently. The people are always so excited to consume new material! They can be a bit critical, but it only helps me perfect my craft.

I am always pushing the limits of what is being done, often past what is expected, and yet the community has been there for me. All of my closest friends are musicians as well and I consider every one of them blood.

My goals are lofty, but nothing will stop me from achieving them. I would like to write at least two new songs a week and I would like to gain 5000 social media followers in the next six months. I guarantee we will soon start leaking tracks online to generate some excitement, as well as get better equipment and ultimately release my debut album on my 20th birthday.

Most of my family possibly couldn’t care less but I don’t mind. They don’t like my type of music anyways.

My mother has never once let me record in her house and will not even let me practice in her presence. My father is also not too keen on hip hop, however he is much more artistic. He told me I am good at what I do so what does it matter what he thinks.

My little sister, despite denying it furiously, was definitely inspired by me. She has heard me at my best a few times and now she records and edits her own music. She is actually quite good!

Music is my life and I am sure going live it up.
