Women move ahead with win over Ellsworth, 65-36

Another day, another victory.

Kirkwood Community College's women's basketball team trounced the no. 8 seeded Ellsworth Community College 65-36 on Wednesday night at home in the first round of the regional tournament.

"It's a win," head coach Kim Muhl said after the game. "That's what I'll say."

Kirkwood travels to Keokuk on March 8 to play the semifinal game, hosted by Southeastern Community College

The Eagles secured first-place in the ICCAC conference on Feb. 23 in its final regular season home game. Kirkwood defeated winless Southwestern Community College 85-20. Sophomore post Friday Chuol recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Alexis Fitzpatrick led the team in scoring with 13 pointsand also posted four assists and four steals.

"We move the ball well," said Fitzpatrick. "We're a really unselfish team."

In the final game of the regular season, Kirkwood suffered its first conference loss in two seasons to no. 17 in the nation DMACC on the road, 51-57. The Eagles were without starting guard Bianca Dufelmeier for the game due to injury.
