The Kirkwood Community College women's basketball team faced off against Southwestern Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Johnson Hall.  The team only lost two games over break and started the new semester off with a win.

Kirkwood's defense accounted for the victory. Taylor Silva and Mikayla Fallon lead in 3-pointers, with three 3-point shots each. Silvia also helped the team with six assists. Fallon and Cassidy Clark both contributed 11 points each and sophomore Ariel Sneed Lead the team's scoring with 12. Sneed also aided on defense with 2 steals and provided help on the boards with 4.

Kristen Larsen contributed seven rebounds to Kirkwood's defensive game, with Clark following close with five.

Other players scoring off the bench were Tyra Polite with six points, Hanna Haynes with four points and five rebounds, and Breannie Robinson with four points.

Kirkwood finished the game with a 66 - 44 victory. The results of this game brought the Eagles' record  to 17 - 3.

While Kirkwood excelled in scoring, the team's handling cost them turnovers in the game.  The team's head coach, Kim Muhl, stated, "We played lethargic, like it was our second day of school, which I think is part of the issue.  This team has to figure out how to come and bring it daily."

The next home game for the Eagles will be held on Feb. 15, when they will play Iowa Lakes Community College.

Since their victory over Southwestern Community College, the Eagles had a couple games. One of which they won against Ellsworth Community College on Jan. 16 with a final score of 79-42. The record that they hold after the last couple games is 18-4.

Their next home game is Feb. 15. With a current conference record of 7-2 the team appears to be on the right track.
