Laughs, lunacy and Lucas
Comedian Lucas Bohn inspires laughter at student event
Comedian Lucas Bohn visited Kirkwood Community College and provided free entertainment for students on Oct. 17 in Cedar Hall.
This is not the first time a comedian has come to the college, according to Seth Vander Tuig, associate director of Student Life.
Vander Tuig stated that Student Life decided to bring a comedian to campus after members of the Student Leadership Council attended the Association of the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) leadership and entertainment conference.
Vander Tuig said, "It's (APCA) an opportunity for students to watch entertainment for the weekend. We saw about 52 entertainers over the span of two days and Lucas was one of the comedians we saw last year at that conference. The students loved him and thought he was amazing. They said, 'We have to get that guy to come to Kirkwood.'"
Lucas Van Ee, architectural technology emphasis, was one of the students in attendance at Bohn's show. Van Ee stated his favorite part of the show was when the girl next to him was called out by Bohn.
According to Vander Tuig, attendance at comedy events has been between 200-300 students in the past. However, the seating was limited to 155 this year because the event was not able to be held in Ballantyne auditorium due to construction, Vander Tuig stated.
Vander Tuig said students can make suggestions for events they would like to see by stopping in the Student Life office in 230 Iowa Hall or by talking to someone in the Student Leadership Council. Vander Tuig also said students can make suggestions by visiting Student Life's facebook page at www.facebook.com/studentlife.
