President Starcevich shares top 10 to finish strong

Spring semester is winding down. Commencement and summer break are on the horizon. How do you stay focused during the home stretch? I've got 10 ways to keep you on track to finish strong. Since everyone loves throw-backs, we're going to do this Letterman style with a top 10 countdown.

10. Eat right. Get your veggies, kids, they're best for brain power. "But Mick," you say, "Shells and cheese over a pop tart crust smothered in bacon with a side of peanut butter cups is soooo good!" Tasty? Maybe. Good? NO.

9. Have you ever wondered what Samuel J. Kirkwood (the guy standing in the roundabout for those of you who don't know) is pointing at? He's pointing at you, speed racer. It will be difficult to complete your finals with two broken arms from a car accident, right? Take it easy out there.

8. No excuses, no regrets. Focus as much energy on getting up and getting to class as you do on thinking up your excuse for not showing up. This will pay off for you in the end, especially when you cross that stage for that hard-earned diploma. Keep remembering why you started. #motivation #achieve

7. Think about the people in your life. Promote, demote or terminate as needed - you're the CEO of your present and your future. Neighbor wants you to stay up all night on the PS4 before a test? Fired! Hey, now you have a position open for that young lady who asked you to study...

6. A bad attitude is like a flat tire...You can't go anywhere until you change it. If it feels overwhelming, we have counselors who can help. Even if it's maybe not entirely school that's causing your feelings. Check out

5. Don't sell your books back to the bookstore quite yet. Might want to wait until after finals. Just sayin'.

4. Make sure that you make time to be with your friends... Unless your friends are super bad influences (remember #7). Social support has a major impact on peoples' attitudes about their abilities. Spending time with inspirational friends creates inspiration in our own lives.

3. Cat videos. Wait, what? That's right, cat videos. Or whatever else the Internet has to offer that will make you laugh. Keeping your sense of humor helps lighten any load.

2. Go to the Rec Center. It's free. A little exercise will brighten your mood, help with anxiety and make you feel a lot better about yourself and the world. And it's way better than stress-devouring a package of Oreos and a gallon of ice cream.

And the number one way to stay focused and finish strong is: Relax. You got this. Keep calm and have faith in all the hard work you've put in this semester.  Picture the positive end result and focus on that. You will become what you believe.
