Art Club fund-raises in three dimensions
Recently the 3D Art Club students used their talents to raise money for their club. The proceeds went to the 3D Art Club to fund art conferences and visiting artists.
Melissa Eaton, a member of the 3D Art Club at Kirkwood Community College, is preparing for the club's annual sale.
Eaton said she has been involved in the art club for two years and sells artwork during the fall sale.
The 3D Art Club holds two shows each year to sell artwork students have created.
A garage sale during the year is also held. Their fall sale took place on Nov. 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by the Iowa Hall Café.
According to Eaton, the works sold are quality pieces made by club members. Students have spent time working on and completing pieces for the fall and spring sales.
Not all artwork is sold during a sale, allowing work from previous sales to be available. Eaton stated there are various types of art created for the art sale, including glass blown pieces, glass sculptures, jewelry and ceramic pieces.
Pricing of artwork ranged from $10 to $100. According to Eaton, in previous years Kirkwood faculty have come and support artists by purchasing artwork and jewelry.
Eaton said, "The art pieces takes a lot of work but it's something that makes you feel good when someone buys what you made."
