Glow Party illuminates the night

Student Life and the Student Leadership Council held their annual Glow Party in Iowa Hall on Nov. 19. Students flocked into the hall wearing all sorts of neon colors and glow jewelry, ready to cut loose for the night.

The dance is an annual occasion since 2008, where the college brings in a DJ, sets up black lights and lasers and turns Iowa Hall into a nightclub for one night.

Seth Vander Tuig, Student Life coordinator, stated the student excitement is well founded. "It's a unique event and it's really cool to see in person. Once you attend, you will want to come next year," Vander Tuig said.

The event is popular with students, with average attendance being around 400 people each year.

"I heard all about it from my peers; it's a fun time," Tim Rupert, nursing program and Student Leadership Council member, said. With an estimated turnout of about 350 this year, the Glow Party's attendance remains strong.

Vander Tuig also stated that this is a good way for everyone to relax and have a good time.

"It's a good break in the middle of the week," Hali Cordes, pre-professional physical therapy emphasis and member of the Student Leadership Council, said.

The dance took place in the last full week of the semester, with finals just around the corner. Since the Glow Party was held on campus, a lot of students were able to attend. "It's a great way to get out and meet new people," Kelsie Smock, Liberal Arts emphasis and member of the Student Leadership council, said. Smock added, "I wanted to have a good time with all of my friends."

All Student Leadership Council members urge students to attend events like the Glow Party when the opportunity arises. "In life, you only get one chance to glow," Rupert said.
