How to survive finals week

With finals week approaching quickly, students may be starting to feel the pressure.

Alan Watts, engineering emphasis and student tutor, gave some suggestions for students who are starting to worry about exams. He said, "Don't wait until finals week to study." According to Watts, studying earlier helps to retain knowledge. Watts also said a group is a good way to study because students can bounce ideas off each other. They can also reinforce knowledge by quizzing each other.

Watts said, "Use your resources and talk to your instructors."

When studying, Watts suggested students focus on weaknesses and review the things they don't know. His final tip for students was, "Read your book."

Logan Kubovec, pre-pharmacy emphasis and student tutor, also had advice for students about finals. "Stay calm, get a good night's sleep and have a good breakfast the day of the exam," he expanded, "If you go in like it's make it or break it you are already putting too much pressure on yourself."

Taking breaks during study sessions, staying healthy and taking time to relax are also important, according to www.cengagebrain.com.

Students looking to get some extra help before finals can visit the Tutoring Center located in 2071 Cedar Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, or call the center at 319-398-5425.
