Coming off of a 17-13 regular season record last year, the 2013-2014 Kirkwood men's basketball team kicks off the year this Saturday with a scrimmage against Mt. Mercy University in Johnson Hall at 10 a.m.

With Doug Wagemester stepping down from the head coaching position to become the fulltime athletic director, Coach Bryan Peterson will step in as head coach this upcoming season.

Along his side Ben Jacobson and Taylor Blum will be making their Kirkwood coaching debuts.

According to Metro Sports Report Peterson's former coach Doug Mcdermott said, "When we recruited him and he played for us, it was obvious that he was a coach on the floor. His basketball I.Q. was off the chart. That was evident as a player. He was able to carry that over to his coaching career."

Finishing sixth in last season's ICCAC standings (second in Division II) this year's team is looking to improve. The team consists of 15 freshmen and three sophomores this year.

The first home game is Nov. 6 against John Wood Community College at 7 p.m.
