Rush for healthcare provides hassle

The Health Care Marketplace, www.healthcare.gov became active on Oct. 1. Although the plan for the website was to provide fast and convenient shopping for the exact insurance needed, the opposite occurred: Constant crashing and glitches due to a high volume of users.

After attempting to sign up for health care, many Americans found the website was frustrating and a waste of time.

When users attempt to begin the application process by creating their login information, they are often stopped by a new page that states there are too many people currently on the site and it encourages the user that they would be next. When traffic decreased, the user would be allowed to continue through the site.

If users wait too long to respond to the site's update, they will be put back onto the waiting list.

Thankfully, Americans can look forward to progress with the site as traffic has slowed and glitches are being fixed. According to USA Today, people are able to contact consumer advisory groups to be enrolled by phone or receive paper applications. CNN also reported "the site seems to be getting better."

I don't mind the idea of a health care marketplace because I find applying and shopping for insurance incredibly confusing. Despite high hopes, the main disappointment is in how the marketplace was initiated. I'm shocked the creators of www.healthcare.gov did not realize how high-traffic the site would be and were not better prepared for a strong response.
