"I wouldn't say I'm a girly girl but I'd like to write for girly magazines or National Geographic. Way different ends of the spectrum but I'd like either one," said student Megan Lehman, a Liberal Arts emphasis.

Lehman and her twin sister, Hailey Lehman, were recently nominated as Outstanding Students. "I was really surprised, I didn't even know that the nominations were up until I got an email from the Communiqué telling me that I had been named an Outstanding Student and Hailey didn't even know until I told her," said Lehman, "I feel so blessed and so honored. It's really cool."

Being sisters so close in age, the Lehmans are also able to help each other with their classes. "Hailey is a business major so she is good with numbers. I'm good with words so if I have trouble with math she helps me and [in return] I will proofread and edit her essays," said Lehman.

Originally from Knoxville, Ill., the Lehmans chose to continue their education at Kirkwood. "Most of my family is here in Iowa City and coming to Kirkwood first I got so many scholarships that I've been going here for free for the last two years," said Lehman.

While at Kirkwood, Lehman has been involved in numerous organizations and activities such as being student leadership council president and is in the Phi Theta Kappa. She is also a student ambassador and wrote for the Communiqué last semester.

In addition to her studies, Lehman is also simultaneously working for an online Christian girls' magazine called Imagine, according to Lehman. She added, "I also write for U-Loop, a campus blog." She said she also writes for the Gazette and is working as a digital intern for a textbook rental company called Book Renter. Lehman  also works at a local Hy-Vee.

In her free time Lehman said she enjoys reading and boxing. "I love it (boxing) because it's not just a workout but I also feel like I can defend myself. It was not the purpose of the class but I like knowing that," said Lehman. She said she also likes to crochet and share content on Pinterest.

Finishing her second year at Kirkwood, Lehman is now focusing her interests in the writing field. "I'm going to be transferring to the University of Iowa where I'll be a communications major with an emphasis in journalism and a minor in Spanish," said Lehman.

"I'm leaning towards moving to Washington D.C. and working in political writing or possibly going into publishing," said Lehman about her post-graduation plans. "I'd like to stick with writing and become a magazine columnist or write for a newspaper," she said.

Lehman said she also wishes to write for a women's magazine or the National Geographic in the future. "I'd prefer National Geographic now that I think about it," said Lehman. "I like the adventure aspect. I love traveling and going places."
