It’s that time of year again when the doors of Kirkwood Community College have opened and the extracurricular activities have begun. One activity is the KCC Choir.

Director Fred Kiser said this semester he has 38 students in Concert Choir and 12 students in Jazz Choir.

The choir has started rehearsals and is preparing for their first concert on Dec. 5. The performance will feature a Shakespearian theme and include monologues from Shakespearean literature that has been turned into songs, along with other Madrigal songs. The concert will also consist of other songs such as a 60’s doo-wop song. The jazz choir will also be preforming a variety of songs as well.

Kiser stated students who are interested in choir or have questions about the upcoming performances or joining the group should contact him at

But in addition to concerts, in the second week of November students may attend the fall musical. This year the musical will be a German fairy tale, “The Robber Bride Groom”.

Kiser compared it to “Grims Fairy tale meets Blue Grass” He also stated that, “We’re looking to work into more forms of literature so we don’t get caught in a rut.”

Auditions were held on Sept. 3, 4 and 5, and practices have just started up, and go from 7-9 p.m.

Students, faculty and staff can attend all concerts and plays at Kirkwood free of charge with their EagleCard.
